Sowohl in eben jenen skulpturalen als auch in den malerischen Werken Umberto Boccionis, der sich als Bildhauer, Maler und Graphiker betätigte, spielen cause der neuen Technik eine entscheidende Rolle. Wie auch aus seinem 1914 veröffentlichten take place mit dem Titel „Pittura, Scultura, Futuriste“ hervorgeht, beschäftigen den Künstler, der zu den Hauptvertretern des Futurismus zählt, die Themen Geschwindigkeit und Bewegung in besonderem Maße. Doch sind es weniger die Produkte der Moderne selbst, mit denen er arbeitet, vielmehr sind es die mit der neuen Technik einhergehenden und auf den Menschen zustürzenden Eindrücke. Inwiefern die 1915 in San Francisco erstmals ausgestellte Plastik „Entwicklung einer Flasche im Raum“ von eben diesen Erscheinungen der Moderne beeinflusst ist oder doch eher klassischen Motivtraditionen folgt, soll im Anschluss an die nun folgende Beschreibung untersucht werden.
